Questionnaire Text Field Size Limits in Delta
This article explains the maximum character limits that apply to different types of text fields within Delta questionnaires. Being aware of these limits will help you avoid submission errors when completing or building questionnaires.
Overview
Different field types within a questionnaire have different character limits depending on the kind of response they are designed to capture. The limits apply both when completing a questionnaire as a supplier and when building one as a buyer.
Response Field Limits
Small Text Fields
Short text fields are used for single-line responses such as free text answers, email addresses, URLs, and numbers. All of these share the same limit:
Maximum: 400 characters
This applies to the following question types:
- Free text (short answer)
- Email address
- Website URL
- Number
Large Text Field (Text Area)
Text area fields are used for longer, open-ended responses — for example, written descriptions, explanations, or policy statements.
Maximum: 3,950 characters
Telephone Number Fields
Maximum: 25 characters
Address Fields
Address questions are made up of several separate fields, each with its own limit:
| Field | Maximum Characters |
|---|---|
| Address line 1 | 400 |
| Address line 2 | 400 |
| Address line 3 | 400 |
| Town / City | 100 |
| County | 100 |
| Postcode | 15 |
What Happens If the Limit Is Exceeded?
If a response exceeds the character limit for that field type, the system will display a validation error when you attempt to submit. You will need to shorten your response before the questionnaire can be submitted successfully.
